Thousands of Gazans rush to apply for Israeli work permits

Thousands of Palestinians gathered in front of the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce in Gaza on Wednesday to apply for Israeli work permits, after reports that a years-long ban on the permits is to be lifted. The applicants, who included unemployed workers, graduates, and elderly people, held their personal documents to register their names and apply to enter Israel for work. A total of 7,000 permits will be granted to Palestinian labourers, an Israeli security official told AFP, up from 5,000 workers and traders allowed in August.
