South Korean provincial governor Lee Jae Myung has won the centre-left ruling party’s primary for the presidential election in March next year, Lee won 50.29 per cent of the vote, just short of a majority, the Democratic Party (Minjoo) announced on Sunday. Lee, who is committed to an unconditional basic income, prevailed over four remaining candidates. Former Prime Minister Lee Nak Yong came in second with 39.14 per cent of vote.
