Sources: Laschet’s bid to lead coalition unpopular with sister party

Armin Laschet’s bid to lead a coalition government in Germany despite historic electoral losses is unpopular among members of his conservative CDU’s Bavarian sister party, the CSU, sources told dpa after a meeting in Munich on Monday. The CDU/CSU bloc had lost out to the centre-left SPD, and therefore was not necessarily entitled to government leadership, CSU leader Markus Soeder said at the meeting, the sources said.
