Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD), which emerged as the largest party after elections in September, expressed optimism ahead of the first formal round of coalition talks on Thursday with two smaller parties. “I’m going into the talks with great confidence,” SPD head Norbert Walter-Borjans on the way to the talks in Berlin with the Greens and the liberal Free Democratic Party (FDP).
